Letterfit

In , letterfit refers to the arrangement of letters in a typeface. A lot goes into it, but the most prominent characteristic is called "kerning", which refers to the spacing between 2 adjacent letters. A good font will vary the amount of kerning based on context and the specific letters in question. This is one reason people hate Comic sans font. In Comic sans, an "f" next to an "o", like in the word "fox", creates an odd whitespace between the "fo". Compare that to Helvetica, which has better kerning, resulting in more balance.
