What is bombogenesis?
Bombogenesis is a #weather phenomenon in which a warm moist air mass clashes with a cold air mass, causing the barometric pressure to "bomb out", hence the name. The drop in barometric pressure causes a very windy storm, and the cold moist air causes a lot of snow to fall, resulting in blizzard conditions.
This phenomenon often occurs in the northeast of the United States, with warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico moving northward, where it clashes with cold air coming off the Great Lakes. This is where the famous Nor'easter storms come from.
This is part of a more general concept known as "cyclogenesis", which is the broader, technical term for a storm that is intensified by clashing with a warm air mass.
